SGE 6.2u5 is not "very basic" - I would say 90% of the code in any
later versions (and Grid Engine forks, whether they be commercial &
proprietary, or open & free) comes directly from that version of SGE.

In terms of functionality, did you find any new features you need in
later versions of Grid Engine (or its forks)?

I've worked with sites that were (and I think they still are) using
very old versions of SGE - like SGE 6.0 & 6.1 in production
environments.

May be Dave should answer this one...

We hope to have OGS & SoGE working closer together and share bug fixes
and features, so I think upgrading to OGS or SoGE will be very similar
in terms of planning & work.

And Dave is offering rpms, which is something a lot of people have
asked for in the past but we (OGS) still have to find time to work on.

We are not offering rpms at this point as we have to setup build bots
to automate the test runs & compatibility tests on EC2 (we don't want
to manage many VM images for many Linux distributions). And when we
ship binaries & RPMs, we need to take into account binary
compatibility, which is still a big issue on Linux.
