I delete the aimk.private file that was causing the
"-I/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/include//usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/include" to show
up in the compile statement and I add the home location into the aimk.site
"/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4"

I also delete the newer version of Berkeley DB from under the /usr/local
directory.

Nevertheless, I am still getting this error

Do I really need the database?

This is my first time to try to install the grid engine any place.

Solaris

May be an issue with your aimk.site? Your compile command shows:
"-I/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/include//usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/include".
If the compiler can't find the header file in the
"/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/include//usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4/include"
directory, then it would pick up the default one, which is likely to be a newer
version than 4.4.20.
