Dave,

Thank you for pointing me to Son Of Grid Engine sge-8.1.1.

SoGE solved the BUG that GE2011.11 had with respect to load_formula not
counting $pe_slots correctly and SoGE also solved a few others bugs I was
fighting with in GE2011.11.

Best,
Joseph

Hi Dave.

Great! I will look into it.

SoGE being Son Of Grid Engine, Open Source GE version?
It is free software<http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html> --
roughly how scientific software was when I started, so we shared work
and education, and got annoyed with people who wouldn't share,
especially when that meant we couldn't verify calculations. "Open
source" now seems to encompass all sorts of things contrary to the Open
Source Definition, like distribution without source and wilful
infringement of free software copyrights.

Are you able to do a quick test to see if PE jobs using "$pe_slots" do
indeed use the scheduler "load_formula"?
I don't see why $pe_slots might be different to any other allocation
rule and I haven't looked for cases where it doesn't work here. The fix
just does the same thing for parallel jobs as for serial.
