There should be a note, at least.

I'm not sure whether that would work.  I think it needs to be read as a
number (a valid time).  I guess the reader could treat UNKNOWN the same
as INFINITY, but I wonder if that could cause any problem or confusion.
It's worth considering, anyhow.
