Hi Ed,
That is some elaborate answer which answers many of my questions, Thanks
for that :)
But I was trying to install demo version of univa, Univa is installing
on windows with the help of SUA. It was hard for me to find to add
features like openSSL and SSH to SUA. SUA community had some nice
bootstrap executable which install ssh and ssl packages. But now SUA
community website is shut down, and its really hard to find ways to add
ssl and ssh features to SUA. Without which installation of univa will
not go ahead. I also found that SUA has been deprecated for future
versions of windows. So, do you have any idea if univa has installation
through cygwin or any other environment?
Thanks,
Ryagz

Hi Ryagz,
Looking at both Open Grid Scheduler and Son of Grid Engine regarding
execd on
Windows, this is still not stable and is not well supported if at all
presently.
Your best bet if you need windows exec hosts is to go with Univa Grid
Engine which
is in my opinion the best supported version of Grid Engine to date and is
continuously improving.
Another possibility, if you have the time and are willing to integrate
a bit,
and if your Windows machines
have enough resources, you may be able to go with a virtual machine
solution where
a linux VM running on the Windows machine acts like a quarterback to
assist in getting
work to and from the Windows machines - of course this depends on what
you are
eventually shooting for. Windows 7 64bit machines running say a
centos 5/6 64bit
linux VM is very common, so this solution is not too far out of reach
- definitely a fun
project to work on esp if you can get it to work well, but it may take
some time.
IBM Platform Computing has a complete solution for Windows 7
scheduling using LSF,
but it is rather costly.
PBS Pro has a good solution for Windows also, but generally is tied to
their tools
integrations, so support may not be the best if you are not using
their tools.
Or, if you would rather have a well supported Windows 7 Grid Engine
scheduling solution
for a reasonable price, go with Univa...
Hope this helps.
Ed

Hi Ed,
Thanks for your reply and good to know that univa supports windows.
I have to conclude my investigation on OGS, could you please let
me know if installation of execution host is possible on 64 bit
windows 7 machine with OGS at all?
Thanks,
Ryagz

Hi Ryagz,
Univa may be able to assist you with this.
Their grid engine builds are well supported for the Windows platform
and the cost is more than reasonable, especially for the level of
support
they offer.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Has anyone installed an execution host on a 64 bit
windows 7 machine? If so can please provide with references
to any documentation. I tried to install(OGS 2011.11)
execution host through cygwin, but the installer was
returning unsupported architecture. Please let me know wat
else can be done. Thanks, Ryagz
