I'd expect the effort needed to do that tolerably securely and correctly
to be comparable to adding it natively, even if I hadn't done it
already.

My advice would be not to bother if you need to ask (other than to
contribute code), especially for simply limiting memory usage, which I'd
have thought needs to be done consistently with the accounting.
