If you have a recent version of MPICH2 built with the hydra process manager you should be able to just use that on a do nothing PE.
In addition if you have an existing MPICH2 install based on the gforker or MPD process manager then I believe the mpiexec from a hydra based install should be compatible with the libraries as they use the same PMI "wire protocol".
