Hi Paul
Thank you for your explanations.
by telling that i can use Java functions inside Derby , i did not intended to tell that Ingres should have this feature. I just asked that whether Ingres has such feature that allow users to add UDF (user defined function) to database or not . For example , I should convert all dates to some other calendar system before i send them to front end , so i need some facilities which allows me to write and use that function.
In derby we can do this by Java programming language.
In Ingres , another member said , we can do it by using some internal sql .

Hi Legolas

Personally, the thought of java in a database engine scares me. But
check out the info-ingres news group for more on the subject of user
defined functions.

PS
There's only one S in Ingres - hmmm sounds like I need to put that on a shirt.
When you will make that T-shirt ? ;-)

        Hi
If you have a contract with Ingres Corp,
You can still get the r3 version, just call support.
Kim

in case that contract is payed service then i should say , i do not have
any contract.

I was just thinking to test Ingres 2006 (is it r3 ?) with my web
application and in case that i find it better then i can switch the
application to ingress instead of Derby - my application will handle
about 30 Transaction/second in its peak time and other times it will
have about 10 transaction/second .
I find Ingress Features much more complete than derby so it is very
interesting to see how it will perform under my peak load in comparison
with Derby on the same hardware.
But , Does it allow me to write my own functions ? in derby i can write
function in Java and use them inside derby like its internal functions.

Right now i have no database specific use of derby (no STP , no
implementation depended functions , ..)
so i can switch from derby to ingress in case that i find it better

Is there any one from Ingress in this list ?
Do you have any schedule to release Ingress 2006 for windows ?

thank you very much for your information.

Just got word from a friend of mine at Ingres that the
Windows product is not yet GA, but when it is it will be available for
download.

Check back in a couple of weeks.

                        I don't have the link unfortunately. I don't
think you have to pay for
                        Windows either. I am just guessing...and I
don't know for sure, but I
am guessing the Windows link just has not been
posted as of yet.

Try calling or emailing them and if you don't
get any help, then let me
know...I'll see if I can help further. However,
I don't work for
them...I just know a few people who *MIGHT* be
able to help.

Dave
I send them an email , If i found no luck then i will
post here again.
                Thank you.

I checked thoroughly and it appears that
the only way to get a download for 2006 is to go here:

http://www.ingres.com/support/Support_Contact_Info.html

According to the website this is what
you need to do for anything other than the Linux version right now.

If you don't get what you are looking
for from them, please email me off-line at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Perhaps I can assist further if you
don't get what you need. I don't have
the link (or I'd give it to you) but I can make some calls if need
be.

                                Dave
Does it means that we should pay for windows
version ?
I thought that it is open source and free , I
just was thinking about
testing it for my undergoing project (currently
using derby) because it
is almost a high load job.

i would be very happy if you could help with
providing a windows
                        download link.
