I dropped [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED], because this
issue is just related to the FreeBSD implementation.
(I guess the best place to discuss this is a FreeBSD ML, such as

Since gif devices are automatically created on FreeBSD 4.4, you
don't have to specify the number of interfaces (4) any more. Please
check if the situation change with the following configuration.
