convergence IPv6 and IPv4 networks

I am an MSc student in Computer and Information Networks.I have a project about "convergence of IPv6 and IPv4 networks".I would like to inform me, if it is possible,  which are the appropriates RFCs to read in order to implement this project.Aslo i would like to inform me which is the best operating system (Linux or win2000) in order to set uo two machines to use IPv4 and IPv6.
