hello ipv6-wizs !
I compiled the ipv6 module on my linux box.
the command 'ifconfig' displays an ipv6 address
derived from my ethernet address. I am not able to
use 'ping6' with this ipv6 address. However I can use
ping6 with loopback ,
i.e., 'ping6 ::1' works fine !
I tried adding my own ipv6 address to the interface
with the command:
'ifconfig eth0 inet6 add 2000::2000'
and later i could do 'ping6 2000::2000' sucessfully
from the same system but not from another machine on
the same network.
-----------------
some Qs:
Is it legal to assign a random ipv6 address and use
it? Otherwise, whom do I contact to obtain an IPv6
address ?
The basic problem: I need to send messages using raw
sockets between two linux systems connected to the
Internet(both systems have ipv6 module compiled). How
do I assign ipv6 addresses to both of them and
establish a connection between them ?
-----------------
waiting for QUICK responses,
thanks in advance,
linux_user
