Hi PM WONG, I never used any special cache servers and for me it just works out of the box. Can you try to run dig +trace www.6bone.net AAAA and see how the domains are resolved.
my output is below, yours should look almost the same, altough the responding server will be different. I hope this helps. Kind regards, @ ; <<>> DiG 9.2.2 <<>> +trace www.6bone.net AAAA ;; global options: printcmd . 450422 IN NS g.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS f.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS b.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS j.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS k.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS l.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS m.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS i.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS e.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS d.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS a.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS h.root-servers.net. . 450422 IN NS c.root-servers.net. ;; Received 436 bytes from 134.221.1.2#53(134.221.1.2) in 2 ms net. 172800 IN NS F.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS G.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS H.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS I.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS J.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS K.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS L.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS M.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS A.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS B.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS C.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS D.GTLD-SERVERS.net. net. 172800 IN NS E.GTLD-SERVERS.net. ;; Received 500 bytes from 192.5.5.241#53(f.root-servers.net) in 154 ms 6bone.net. 172800 IN NS nss1.lbl.gov. 6bone.net. 172800 IN NS nsx.lbl.gov. ;; Received 75 bytes from 192.35.51.30#53(F.GTLD-SERVERS.net) in 161 ms www.6bone.net. 3600 IN CNAME 6bone.net. 6bone.net. 3600 IN AAAA 2001:5c0:0:2::24 6bone.net. 604800 IN NS nsx.lbl.gov. 6bone.net. 604800 IN NS nss1.lbl.gov. ;; Received 149 bytes from 128.55.6.15#53(nss1.lbl.gov) in 153 ms >Hi all > I was trying to set up a dns server on linux (on our ipv6 network) >here >so i could enable my ipv6 client (a Mac running OSX 10.3) to >browse sites on the Internet2 (or other sites connected to 6bone) > >I used the root cache servers file (i.e. that standard named.ca >used normally for ipv4 dns query). > >But so far testing the thing only succeeds for a few sites >(mainly the UK academic community and others like >www.kame.net iperf.ipv6.wiscnet.net ipv6.sjtu.edu.cn ) > >However most others like www.6bone.net could not be resolved. > >Now when i tested using a known ipv6 cache server (2001:4830:CC1E:1:: ) >directly with command >host -t aaaa www.6bone.net 2001:4830:CC1E:1:: > >it worked. > >What does this indicate ? >What's the best way to test out the dns ipv6 hosts query? > >PM Wong. >ITSC, Hongkong Baptist University > > >--------------------------------------------------------------------- >The IPv6 Users Mailing List >Unsubscribe by sending "unsubscribe users" to [EMAIL PROTECTED] --------------------------------------------------------------------- The IPv6 Users Mailing List Unsubscribe by sending "unsubscribe users" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
