Thanks, this is awesome. I downloaded the latest snapshot and the
problem has disappeared, i.e. I could re-activate the optimization. Do
you have any ideas when (and whether) initial bindings may be available
for update again? This would enable me to walk through the full test suite.

As you know from the dev@ lists that is a fundamental design issue in
teh area of update.

does not work as it's not legal syntax.
