Jena _is_ a rich project, so it can be a bit hard to find a place to bite off a chewable chunk. There are some tools that you'll want to be familiar with before
you even go looking for a place to begin. I apologize if some of these seem basic, but it's usually better to ask in advance... Do you have some solid
experience with Java? Do you feel comfortable with Maven, the build system that Jena uses? Have you worked your way through the Jena tutorials and do you feel
comfortable with Jena's basic APIs, those in jena-core and at least some of jena-arq?

I also agree that JSON-LD is not suited as a format for queries results. In
this regard I also suggest no changes. However, I think it would be really
useful to support nested JSON results. So with regard to this instead, I do
suggest this change as an improvement. I would like to help coding this
feature, but the codebase is just too overwhelming for me... I don't even know
where to start.
