Nokia 30 terminals with software version 7.21 may reboot without any reason and restore to factory defined settings. Factory defaults are also restored when you plug power cable back to terminal.
When Kannel starts, it instructs terminal to forward received sms messages directly to TE (default init-string: AT+CNMI=1,2,0,1,0). However factory default is to store messages to the memory (AT+CNMI=0,0,0,0,0). If terminal always starts to work after kannel is restarted, problem may be this old software. Then you should try to get new software for your terminal. Personally, I modified Kannel so that it sends init string every time there are messages waiting in the memory. This way you don't need to restart Kannel if terminal starts to store messages.
