Hi Sultan, CMIIW, A GSM Modem is actually just like a GSM Phone so when we send an sms from a GSM Modem or a GSM Phone of course the SMS is sent to the GSM operator's SMSC.
A SMS gateway is a system which stands between an SMSC (which can be a GSM Operator SMSC or a GSM Modem which act as a virtual SMSC which mentioned in kannel's userguide) and a GSM phone.
