%T escape code

Hi!

On table 6-9 of the User Guide (Escape codes) it appears %T as being 
"the time the message was sent, in UNIX epoch timestamp format"

Now, my question is, is this time sent by the SMSC, or is it provided by 
Kannel itself when it receives the message?
