So I go into Linux command and do the following

telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx XXXX (Port of SMPP clinet)
the IP from SMPP

we have tried this it is not working...am I using the correct command?

Have you tried telnetting the port where the SMPP it's suposed to be
estabilshed? You _have_ to specify the port, otherwise telnet will try
to use port 23, which is of course closed and guarded with black dogs
and crocodiles in any decent setup ;)

If you cannot telnet into the SMPP port, then it's obvious that
there's not a problem with kannel but with VPN connectivity. Talk with
the other side and work out connectivity problems before trying to
establish an SMPP connection.
