Have you tried to send an MO or MT? When you say that there is a problem
with smsbox and not bb, you imply MO. In such case there should be something
in bb & smsc logs about it. Please post in maximum detail.
Bear in mind that this mechanism works fine in a lot of production
installations. Your problem is unique.

Yes, I have tried to send SMS while the bearerbox is in that state and
SMSes just do not get sent. What I do usually is kill the bearerbox
and the smsbox and restart them again. Then, magically, all the SMSes
that were held are sent.
It is as if the bearerbox still works but the smsbox is no longer
bound to the bearerbox and keeps the SMSes and replies until the box
is back up again.

Empty logfile simply means you have no traffic. Have tried sending an SMS
while in that state? Unless the file descriptors are screwed up, which is
not the case, and you don't get any errors in the logs, your setup is
fine.
How do you conclude that bearerbox stopped working?

So, what is sending the SIGHUP signal to kannel for reopening a new
log? It seems that it happens when log is rotating., and why does the
bearerbox stop working when it receives the SIGHUP signal? Isn't it a
kannel bug?
The warning message I shared comes from the bearebox log. Then after
that I see an empty bearerbox log and no activity at all.

Mbuni and Kannel are 2 different apps. Mbuni uses kannel to do sms
messaging but are different applications
