I have no idea of what/how MAM is, but as Nikos said, you can create
your own driver for kannel. You can take the example from the code
like in smsc_at and probably with that you can go on without the
needing to redo/modify whole kannel.

I'm trying to get a driver to make kannel "talk" TNPP protocol (used
mainly for Paging).... so I can use the excelent performance of kannel
itself with no -so far-  modifications to the core, but only with a
new type of smsc, and I'll have an unique gateway for both protocols.
