kannel shouldnt drop messages, you're probably missing some settings.

what kind of store you're using? it should be either file or spool
(spool is recommended for high amount of messages).

try building latest kannel from the trunk and test if it happens for you again..

also might be an issue with your DLR processing script, check it as
well if it uses MySQL or any other database and connection to it is
stable and working fine under load.
