You're absolutely right Ken, but there's an additional wrinkle here. CHIRP itself updates in place no problem, but pipx has some of its own restrictions in that regard and an uninstall->install cadence seems to work the most reliably in the most places. So our download directions recommend that method. But, good point about that statement on the download page - perhaps it needs to be updated to make it clear that it applies to the two main OSes only. Very well said on all the rest.
