One other bit;  I'm using a Logitech wireless keyboard, model K800.
It shares the "Unifying" usb-receiver with my mouse.

Mate's keyboard properties dialog shows many Logitech models but
not the K800.  I've set the model type to generic "Logitech Cordless".
