In thinking about this a little more, I wonder if fred doesn't have the right of it. Using monitors with different resolutions and dot pitches at the same time must play havoc with font selection. Maybe it's taken care of automatically by the desktop. What happens with laptops that use an external monitor that's a different size than their built in screen, especially larger?
