Just triple-checking:  Exiting the program in the usual may not be
enough.  That may just close down your user-interface.  It could be
still running in the background, keeping an eye on your calendar, etc.

I'm not sure about Thunderbird, but many mail programs are often like
that.  You end up using some command like "evolution --quit" and/or
"killall evolution" (a few times), to get evolution to actually quit.
