Does that occur more than once?

If so, that would suggest insufficient power.  Or a wonky lead that
makes and breaks connections.

Even if a device is intended to be USB-powered from the PC with a Y-
lead, you may be able to use a separate USB power supply with it.  One
of the plugs on the Y-lead will be intended for data and power, the
other one just for (extra) power.
