Hey, what?  Surely random email addresses can't simply post anything
there?  We'd be inundated with spam.

We always had to register and confirm, before.

I'd agree.  My guess would be that, coincidentally, on the same date
gmail may have changed how they handle duplicates / receiving your own
posts.
