I have this problem from time to time with a printer connected via USB.
Sometimes it helps to reset the particular USB port, sometimes it is
necessary to shut down the printer, disconnect it, reset the USB
port and
reconnect the printer. Sometimes the only solution is reboot.
It happens around once a month but lately (knock on wood) it has not
happened.
I don't know about the original poster, but wouldn't help for the thing
I noticed it with (e.g. MuseScore as an appimage). You have a generic
app that's supposed to work everywhere, but it's the lowest common
denominator, ignoring any distro-specific features. And there's the
sandboxing to contend with, too.
Now I seem to have the same persistent problem with printing from
google-chrome-stable. The printings just go into deep space. They
disappear from the CUPS queue and nothing gets printed. The
workaround is to "print" to a PDF and then print the PDF. That works
reliably so far.
Cheers
Frank
Have you tried the two step process I mentioned in my thread. I see the
same issues you are reporting in that the first time I select a printer
from the list and print to it the print goes into limbo, with the print
process saying it has finished but the printer never seeing it (This is
with a network connected printer, not a print connected directly to the
desktop), but if I issue the print to the same printer a second time it
actually printers. The same issue occurs if I change cups printer
drivers in the print process, and even if after printing with the
different driver I switch back to the driver I've already printed with I
still have to go through the two step print process.
I even have an issue under Windows where on my wife laptop printing with
the epson supplied drivers causes the print to go off into limbo (as you
are reporting), the printing has to be done with the microsoft driver,
and this is where on my wife's laptop I have the print environment set
up exactly the same on my desktop where printing with the epson drivers
works fine.
