It was a long time ago, I'm pretty sure I installed all the board
drivers, but at one point I got a popup that asked me to buy a Dolby
license for surround sound.  That's when I did a bunch of research and
read (from others, not authoritative) about the license problem.

I started off with this assumption, and my previous motherboard *did* do
surround over toslink, but I just can't convince this one.  Maybe
there's a software way, but I don't want to invest any more time into
it.
