Then I don't know which scenario you mean and I can't replicate it -
whenever I open and close the search menu, it seems to behave correct (at
least visually, probably not internally). Or I am still misunderstanding
your procedure.

But regardless of that, the following is still true (and as I have to search
for messages quite often, it's a bit of a pain currently):
