Personally I wouldn't just download and install a binary RPM that wasn't specifically for the release of the OS. The pbone site usually makes the src.rpm's available, what I would do is download that instead and recompile it on the el5.4 server. As least then you know the resulting binary RPM is much more suited to your release since it's been compiled on it.
