I was looking for an update of the Belgian eID middleware, when I stumbled

According to that blog a newer version hasn't been packaged because the
source is no longer available to packagers. That was perhaps true in 2008,
but it seems that presently the source can be downloaded from
 http://code.google.com/p/eid-mw/

There are even patches available at the same location to allow the build
 to work in fedora.

I would love to see this package updated. Perhaps one of the rpmforge
contributors can have a look and see if it is viable to update the current
 beid package.

I discussed with the Debian packager (Wouter Verhelst) and another guy responsible for the code you can see hosted at code.google.com. Unfortunately, it was a nightmare to compile, even in the first version and that newer version needed higher QT lib (and other libraries, but don't remember exactly now which ones) not available on/for EL5 .. :/ I can have a new look if i find free time, or you can and submit patches/updated specs here too ;-)

Right, whether we try to tackle this one using a staticly compiled QT, or we wait until RHEL6 is out, is up to those people who want to spend the time doing it.

Personally I would love to have it, but lack the time to investigate or create the package. But don't let that hold you back, we need more people diving into it and cracking the tough problems too :-)

And if you need help or guidance, that's what the packagers list is for.
