No, it's just that nowadays xine developers expect lirc packagers to
provide them with a pkgconfig file (while having broken the normal
CFLAGS / LIBS support in the meantime to make sure there's no way back)
and our lirc package is broken beyond repair so it seems. I wouldn't
venture into updating lirc, but it's trivial to hack up a dirty patch
for xine, since we regenerate the build system anyways.

And, by the way, you could have just rebuilt xine 0.99.5 without any
problems.

Ah, come on, let's stop updating the damn packages then. And why do we
need a repository at all? It takes so much time and efforts to
maintain...
