It's always worth forking java whenever you get a message about a class not found in the xml packages.
That's as maybe, but as I said in a previous response in this thread ... I've tried that and it doesnt work :-(
maven.compile.fork isn't going to help when you're running a <java> task
You need to pass in the fork="true" attribute to java task (or whatever ant uses - I try to forget)
