here's the output.
C:\federico\eom>set MAVEN_HOME=c:\\java\\maven-1.0-rc1
C:\federico\eom>set PATH=%MAVEN_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
C:\federico\eom>maven
ERROR: MAVEN_HOME is set to an invalid directory.
MAVEN_HOME = c:\\java\\maven-1.0-rc1
Please set the MAVEN_HOME variable in your environment to match the
location of the Maven installation
Same result setting MAVEN_HOME from the control panel.

Do you have a build.properties or project.properties in your home directory
or in ypur eom directory?
In the eom directory
