Hi Max, just want to let you know that you are not alone on your planet, I have the exact same problem : With RC2, I must install manually many jars in my local repository, even when the correct version is present in the remote repo and the project.properties file is correctly configured (at least about want concerns the remote repo).
I'll try to work the problem out a little bit more before going back to RC1. Let's keep in touch if there's anything new about this issue. I just deleted (moved away) my ~/.maven directory and downloaded everything I needed again. It was anoying (because it took so long) but it all seemed to work again after that.
