The file is fine when I manually download it from Nexus. I have instances of

That's the first thing I did, I deleted local repositories and rebuilt from
scratch. As I said earlier the machine that works downloads a completely
clean set of dependencies, and mine starts garbling them after a time.
Interestingly I get a lot less errors when I set maven to use one thread.

I also tried moving my machine onto the same subnet and even the same switch
as nexus. The issue still persists.
