you need to create a proxy repository, with the policy of 'SNAPSHOT'. your 'Main Repository' should be a repository group, then you put all these proxy repos into this group.
this is a very normal use case, and should be tested very well. Anyway, can you paste your nexus.xml configuration, so we can help investigate.
