I think that's what he's referring to; it is in my case. First I release the company-wide parent POM, then I begin releasing the rest of the projects, each of which need to have their parent declaration updated from the SNAPSHOT version to the just-released version. Currently I do this manually to all projects I'm releasing (with the advantage of only adding one extra commit, whereas the versions-approach would be one extra commit PER project).
