Hi, I've experienced the same problem when compiling with aspectJ compiler (maven-aspectj-plugin) and solved it with plugin properties: enabling fork and setting maxmemory to 128MB. AFAIK other plugins like maven-test-plugin have also fork options.
It would be helpful if you say in what goal you're getting the errors.
