The command I tried was:
mvn archetype:generate -DgroupeId=org.sonatype.mavenbook -DartifactId=simple
-Dpackage=org.sonatype.mavenbook -Dversion=1.0-SNAPSHOT
The URL it was trying to connect to was {s}->https://repo.maven.apache.org:443
No I cannot access without a proxy
