M2 compile classpath (FAQ?)

Hello,

How do i set the classpath used during compile without using 
dependencies (which in my understanding involves copying the jars to the 
local repository, writing poms ...)?
As an example lets say my sources use functionality from 
C:\Programme\Saxon\saxon8.jar.
