Maven has a steep learning curve, no doubt. However, once you've gotten past that and set up the build, it is easy to understand and maintain. Not to mention all the 'magic' that Maven has. Sure, it's easier to get Ant to do what you want in the first place, but it's likely to be much harder to maintain and has to be re-written for each project.
