Please don't post the same question twice.
When are you finding it necessary to modify the parent versions?
Using the release plugin should handle most of it, but there are
generally one or two that you have to change by hand.
Searching the MNG JIRA project for 'parent' turns up several issues
that are still open. You might want to vote for/watch these:
