I've downloaded and tried it out. Looks nice. I like that I don't have to configure webdav for deployment, it's an annoying issue with other repo managers.

It's also, unfortunately, fundamentally unreliable. It's not transactional so it can just leave a bunch of crap lying around. This is really a Maven problem but DAV doesn't really help much there. I'm working with Greg/Jan to create a transactional model which when we're done with the prototype we'll share.

The biggest thing that I felt was missing is users and permissions. Is this going to be a feature of the commercial version only? If so, when do you think the commercial version will be available and what will it cost?

We are focusing on the open source version, but we'll have a laundry list of enterprise features and we'll try to publish that. We're honestly undecided on security at the moment. We also haven't decided on the exact pricing. In complete frankness we would like something on the order of 5k/server. We're trying to figure out our model but that's what we would like. A model where it would make no sense for any organization to try and internally implement these features. We're shooting for low cost, quick ROI. And this will force of to keep adding useful features and integration with other tools like Eclipse. The open source version will always be available for people to use and it's not going to crippled, untested, or some other strange tactics I've seen floating around.

I'm sure these questions are being asked on the mailing list, unfortunately there is no public archive of the mailing list that I could find.

Probably not on this mailing list, and the Nexus user list was just created a while ago so there's nothing to archive yet.

Any other questions about Nexus you can ask on the Nexus user list:

Dear Jolly Maven Users,

After many months of alpha testing we are tickled pink to announce the 1.0-beta-1 release of Nexus. Tamás Cservenák, Brian Fox, Eugene Kuleshov and Justin Richard have been working very hard to bring Maven users something we feel will benefit the whole community. In an unbelievable twist of fate, this might be the first Maven- related project that actually has documentation with its first releases! We have a website with some information about Nexus which you can find here:

http://nexus.sonatype.org

And Tim O'Brien has written a chapter on Maven repository management which covers all the basics that people will need to get started with Nexus. We'll have a few more cool announcements to make about Nexus shortly, but people are probably most interested in how to get started, where they can download Nexus, and if there are any mailing lists to join. You can surf around the site, but here are the most relevant links.

http://nexus.sonatype.org/getting-started.html
http://nexus.sonatype.org/download.html
http://nexus.sonatype.org/mailing-lists.html

We look forward to feedback from users, and you'll definitely be hearing more from us about Nexus!

Thanks,

The Sonatype Team
