In the Maven 2.1M1 Release note ,the *Automatic* Parent Versioning has been
add to feature list, I dont think that a bad idea.

   - Addition of a prepare-package phase
   - Make-Like Reactor

(also
   coming in plugin form for Maven 2.0.x)
   - Parallel Artifact Resolution
   - PGP Artifact Verification
