Its not too much to ask. But quite simply, the answer is no, or else the Nexus FAQ post that was "rather complex" would have been much simpler, right? You can't do this in plain old Maven at this point in time, unless something has changed and I'm simply unaware of it. Some people manage this by creating a cron job to run every hour on their repo server that runs through the artifacts and sets read-only mode on all the deployed files.
