help with profile property NOT picking up project defined property

I have a property defined at my project level, that I want to use in a
property in a specific profile declared profile:

       * <symphony.profile.name>GRD-GENESIS-DataExchange</
symphony.profile.name>
    </properties>

*
        *<profile>
            <id>QAS</id>
            <properties>
                <stage.dir>${user.home}/STAGING/${**symphony.profile.name}**
/QAS</stage.dir>
            </properties>
        </profile>
*


*My issue is that stage.dir is getting set to:*

*${user.home}/STAGING/${**symphony.profile.name}**/QAS

*
*NOT:*
*myUser/STAGING/**GRD-GENESIS-DataExchange**/QAS*
