There are two other configuration files that you'll want to investigate besides your pom for assemblies. I usually have a /main/assembly directory with a component.xml and then an assembly descriptor file. If you can't get what you need from this URL (http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-assembly-plugin/assembly.html ), let me know and I can provide some examples.
