For some reason when using:
mvn release:prepare -Dmaven.scm.provider.cvs.implementation=cvs_native
Maven cannot commit the changed POM file
I get this:
Provider message:
The cvs command failed.
Command output:
Cannot access /web/cvs
/CVSROOT
No such file or directory

I use this format in my SCM connection
scm:cvs:ext:usern...@server:/web/cvs/:module
Our CVS server is setup with extssh. Before I had problems with
authentication but solved this by adding my public key to the
authorized_keys on the server.
Can anybody help me out?
